Our biggest challenge as fish Keepers is to create a 'natural' healthy environment in our ponds, where the correct balance of beneficial bacteria are allowed to develop and flourish. The pond and filters in time, will mature to give a balanced eco-system. If this is not achieved, toxic waste that the fish produce will not be effectively removed and will cause stress to the fish and weaken their immune system. This will lead to a reduction in their ability to fight off potential health problems. Growth and development are also adversly affected and in severe cases, fish losses will occur.
Our ponds are often overstocked, over fed and are treated with aggressive chemicals to kill parasites, fungal or bacterial infections. All of these have a detrimental effect on the balance of bacteria we are trying to maintain in our filters. Even a week on holiday with reduced feeding can cause the bacteria colony to die back. To assist our own eco-system, we can introduce and supplement the correct beneficial bacteria into our system to accelerate and maintain this natural balancing process. This in turn will lead to clear, well balanced water and healthier fish.

Dramatically accelerates the colonisation of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria required for correctly maturing your filters in easy to dose tablet form.
Filter Start tablets contain balance of several groups of bacteria that are best used to colonise a new sterile filter in conjunction with a stocked fish pond. This enables stable healthy water conditions to develop therefore a healthier environment for your fish.
They are easy to dose. Slow releasing tablets. Simply place these within your filter or pond and it will dissolve releasing bacteria. Filter Start tablets contain boron, Sodium, Phosphorus and carbon boron is common used as a light disinfect for eye drops. DeSludge contains the correct balance of several groups of bacteria that are best suited for the decomposition and removal of all organic waste - this typically settles on your pond floor, pipes and filters, where inadvertent dead spaces are created. Sludge demands oxygen as it decays, therefore reducing the available dissolved oxygen in the water which the fish and beneficial bacteria depend on. People are concerned that a lot of the products offering a remedy use copper which acts as a poison. Although this will offer a temporary solution, copper is also toxic to fish. The other problem of poisoning or killing blanket weed is that the resulting “fall out” of dead strands will block filters and/or pumps causing a loss of filtration and therefore upsetting the vital beneficial bacteria colonies we have created and are trying to maintain.
This is totally natural product that inhibits the growth of blanket weed and is harmless for all pond inhabitants including fish, frogs, filter bacteria and plants.
As many of us know heavy blanket weed growth in our ponds although not a chemically dangerous problem, is unsightly and blocks our filters/pumps when it breaks off. A slight presence of nitrate/phosphate combined with a day of bright sunlight can be enough to cause a blanket weed outbreak. One of the single most important parameters that needs to be controlled in ant form of koi fish keeping is the pH value. All life within the pond required a stable pH, including the beneficial bacterial colonies. These are essential to control the waste products that the fish produce and to keep the correct balance within our pond and filters. The value of kH (carbonate hardness) that is present in our water has a direct relationship and affect on pH. If the kH of the water is kept within the correct range of 6-8, this will give greater stability to the pH. The beneficial bacteria we introduce and maintain within our filter systems will naturally reduce kH value of a healthy pond over time, during the processes of nitrification and denitrification. The higher the stocking density/feed rate in the pond the more nitrification/denitrification takes place within the filter.
This in turn will accelerate the rate with which the kH value will reduce. If the kH value is allowed to drop out the ideal range the pH value will fluctuate. This will have an adverse effect on all life within the pond including the beneficial bacteria within the filter, plants and most importantly our fish.
